Rod End Bolts

Rod end bolts, sometimes known as turnbuckles, create a hinge-like connection between two rods. They have opposing threads that screw into a frame, and rotating the frame pulls or pushes the rods together or apart, tightening or loosening the attached chain or wire rope. They’re often used to control the length of a chain or rope or for securing equipment in material handling or design applications.

Eye bolts are metal fasteners with a shank and a loop at one end for attaching ropes or hooks. They’re commonly used in light- and heavy-duty hanging, lifting, pushing or hoisting rigging applications. They’re available in a wide variety of shapes and sizes, with different shoulder designs to suit varying loads.

There are three main types of eye bolts: nut eye bolts, machinery eye bolts and screw eye bolts. The type you choose will depend on the application and the rated capacity of your assembly. Nut eye bolts work best for vertical lifting, while machinery eye bolts are ideal for angular loads thanks to their shoulder design. Screw eye bolts are similar to machine eye bolts but are shorter and stubbier, making them better suited for wood anchor points.

When selecting an eye bolt, consider its rated capacity and the angle of lift. For example, a shoulder-pattern lifting eye bolt is suitable for angular loads up to 45 degrees from the point of attachment. Forged eye bolts have their rated capacities clearly marked on the eye.

Wire Rope Slings

Wire rope slings are specialized steel cable assemblies that are used to lift heavy objects and loads in a variety of industrial applications. They are fabricated from multiple strands of high-strength wires that are twisted and braided together. They are commonly used in construction, mining, maritime, and manufacturing industries.

There are a variety of different types of wire rope slings, each with its own unique characteristics pallet truck and applications. Choosing the right one depends on the size, configuration, and type of load that is being lifted. Typically, the first consideration is the size of the sling’s eye; this will determine the maximum capacity or working load limit that it can support. Afterward, the sling’s construction and classification will be considered, as well as its overall length.

The classification of a wire rope sling can be determined by the number of strands and its core construction. For example, a wire rope sling may have an independent wire rope core (IWRC) or a fiber core. The core is what supports the strands of the sling and can either be made from hemp or sisal.

It is critical for a rigger to know the capabilities of each type of wire sling before using it. This will ensure that the sling can handle the load safely and without causing damage to the equipment or load. This is especially important if the sling is subject to shock loading, which can cause the sling’s rated capacity to be exceeded.

Chain Slings

Chain slings are commonly used in a variety of rigging applications because they’re durable and strong. They can withstand heavy loads, elevated working temperatures and severe lift conditions. However, if not properly used or maintained, chain slings can cause injuries to workers and damage to the load. In addition, they can be costly to repair or replace if damaged.

When using chain slings, it’s important to pallet truck visually inspect them before each use. Look for signs of stretching, gouges, bent or damaged links and components, including clevis hooks with opened throats, cracks and distortion. If any of these are found, the sling should be removed from service. It’s also critical to use the right sling for each load and to follow all instructions for attaching it.

For example, some slings require special padding to avoid contacting the load’s surface. Others have specific temperature and chemical exposure restrictions. It’s also important to follow proper procedures for lifting and lowering the load, as well as positioning it correctly. Also, workers should not place their hands or fingers between the sling and the load to prevent injuries. Finally, slings should not be shortened with knots or bolts.


Hoists are used to lift heavy materials and objects, usually in industrial settings. They can be manual or electric and are sometimes called construction elevators. They are essential pieces of equipment at power plants and utility companies, as well as in airports, warehouses, steel mills, and other industries that require the movement of heavy materials.
